Alex Homer

BBC Shared Data Unit
Senior Journalist
Birmingham, England
Alex is an investigative reporter with a track record of public interest news stories and holding the powerful to account.
He is a specialist in using Freedom of Information laws and has a particular interest in home affairs, local government and the business of sport.
Before joining the BBC in 2014, Alex was a reporter for four years covering the Black Country area for the six daily editions of the Express & Star newspaper.
His ability to manipulate data was first honed during a three-month BBC attachment in 2016 shining a light on the accounts of the 92 clubs in the Premier League and English Football League, manually entering 18,785 individual pieces of information to build a giant database.
Away from the office, Alex plays cricket, darts, football and hockey for fun. He supports West Bromwich Albion FC and likes cooking too. He speaks French and German increasingly poorly.
